Hi, I’m Christie! I draw, paint and create using water colour and ink for print, stationery, and surface design. I work independently as a freelance commercial illustrator, working on multiple projects and collaborations worldwide and creating beautiful products for like minded brands. I am best known for my floral watercolour works, tying illustration with modern calligraphy, and for drawing girls with long braids. I love creating stationery collections with luxurious gold foil, and add polka dots wherever possible!
Im lucky to have a beautiful home studio in the lush Dandenong Ranges, and often find inspiration right outside my house in the surrounding forests and gardens. I’m also very inspired by the organic forms of Australian flowers, the unusual and waxy leaves of indoor plants, and the ornamental style of the art nouveau movement. My personal projects are often inspired by the vintage books and unusual trinkets I’ve collected over the years, combined with leafy and floral details.
After gaining a Bachelor Degree in Design /Visual Communication at Monash University I spent the following 6 years working within the stationery industry designing greeting cards, invitations, and gift wrap in-house for an Australian greeting card company. I then became really interested in creating patterns and eventually moved on from stationery to try my hand at textile print design. I really loved the work but not the fashion industry. So knowing that my long term goal was to be able to work from home anywhere in the world, I soon quit my day job to focus on doing what I love most- illustration and surface pattern design! The past three years freelancing have been truly wonderful! I’ve worked with some amazing Australian brands and large-scale worldwide companies to create beautiful stationery, fabrics, and products for customers worldwide. It’s always so exciting seeing the designs come to life and on the shelves of stores across the country. There are so many fun projects on the go and I can’t wait to share them with you here in the coming months!
